Linux Desktop and System Administration Courses

Ubuntu Desktop Seminar - 1 Day

Aimed at end-users new to Ubuntu Linux, who are planning to use it as a desktop working and Internet environment. Introduces users to the world of Linux and especially the Ubuntu Linux distribution; covers typical office and home use software, software installation and maintenance, etc.

Cost - $660 per head

Linux System Administration Basics – 1 Day

The Linux System Administration Basics course is aimed at new and inexperienced Linux system administrators, who want to learn how to manage and care for a Linux system. Starts at command line basics, software installation, system diagnostic tools and finishes with a guide to configuring the Apache web server.

Cost - $880 per head

Advanced Linux System Administration – 2 Days

The Advanced Linux System Administration course covers more advanced material - how to more effectively use the command line, how to deal with some common system issues and procedures for things like backups and fail-safe setup.

Cost - $1320 per head (includes both days)

Software Development and Management Courses

Web-based Software Development with AJAX – 2 Days

This two-day course teaches participants best-practice techniques for creating web-based software. Typically we run this course using PHP and PostgreSQL, but other languages may be substituted upon request. The course covers analysis, design, implementation and testing techniques for web applications, with a special focus on Open Source tools.

Cost - $1650 per head

Managing Distributed Software Development Teams – 1 Day

Software development is increasingly conducted over the Internet, by teams that can be thousands of kilometers from one another. This course teaches techniques and tools to manage distributed teams - introducing tools like Subversion and other source code management packages, and systems for more effective communication and management.

Cost - $880 per head

Using the Drupal Content Management System – 1 Day

This course teaches participants how to use the Open Source Drupal CMS to present and manage website content, including static pages, periodic news-story style postings and web logs. Updated to be relevant to Drupal 5.

Cost - $660 per head

Advanced Drupal Content Management – 1 Day

Our Advanced Drupal Administration course covers the use of Drupal's more advanced features; particularly, how to create a custom Drupal theme and how to use the Taxonomy module to categorize and control access to content. Also covers some of the other modules available to Drupal users.

Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Systems – 2 Days

A data warehouse seeks to overcome these issues by providing real-time (or as near as possible) measurements of business performance. This course introduces Data Warehousing as a subject, and covers best-practice techniques for data warehouse implementation. Aimed primarily at a technical audience, though a less technical and more theoretical version of the course is also available.

Free and Open Source Licensing Basics – 1 Day

This course details the most popular and powerful free and open-source licenses, and how they can be used in business and government, and by independent media creators and consumers. We look specifically at free media and data licensing using licenses such as Creative Commons versus traditional, exclusive licenses, and the benefits and traps inherent in each.
